Recycling 101

To some people the goals and ideals behind recycling come naturally; however there are those who just don’t see that the end justifies the means. These attitudes need to be changed in order for us to maintain global sustainability.
Here are 10 valid reasons for everyone to start recycling in their own home.

1 – Recycling reduces the deforestation that takes place in order to make paper. The removal of natural forests causes an increase in the green house gas carbon dioxide which contributes to global warming.

2 – Protects habitat and biodiversity. Every time a tree is taken down in order to produce paper an entire environment is destroyed. Elimination of habitat is detrimental to the survival of many different species.

3 – Reusing already refined materials indirectly reduces and at times eliminates the use of toxic chemicals in the manufacturing of products. Less chemical usage is beneficial to the environment and health of the people.

4 – Recycling helps reduce global warming as less greenhouse gas emissions are released into the atmosphere.

5 – Less waste is produced during the use of recycled materials which reduces the contaminants that lead to water pollution that harms our sea creatures and ecosystems.

6 – Recycling reduces the build up of waste in land fill, which releases toxins into underground water supply and atmosphere.

7 – When more products are recycled instead of simply disposed of there is less need for incinerators which grossly pollute the air, causing sever environmental and health condition.

8 – Recycling has economic benefits as some developing countries have systems in which recycled materials are used in order to improve the lives of those who have little. Products can then be cycled through the society instead of wasted.

9 – The implementation of city or state wide recycling brings greater job opportunities and promotes economic development. Money can be made and saved by the re-use of already existing products.

10 – The purchase of products which use recycled material leads to a greater demand in recycled products. A greater demand in recycled products motivates more people to supply these products.
